Northern Michigan University in Marquette has closed today (Wednesday, Feb. 2) due to a serious threat it has received.  This includes essential personnel, unless otherwise notified.

According to NMU officials, a tip was received concerning an online message that threatened students, faculty, staff and administrators but it was unclear as to when and where any incident may occur.  As a result, University officials chose to close down for the day as a precautionary measure.

The Marquette Area Public School District has closed for the day.  Students are being dismissed as follows:

Marquette High School at 9:30 am

Bothwell Middle School at 9:55 am

All Elementary Schools at 10:40 am

NorthStar Academy and Polaris Middle School in Marquette are also closing early for today.

Redeemer Lutheran Preschool in Marquette is currently under lock down and parents can come by to pick up their children at anytime.  They will not be holding preschool this afternoon.

The YMCA of Marquette County has closed the Vandenboom Child Development Center as well as their facility in Marquette.

Marquette General Hospital is also currently open as usual but they are monitoring all entrances until further notice.
