MEMORIAL DAY OBSERVANCES GOING ON IN AND AROUND MARQUETTE COUNTY.
American Legion Post 44 of Marquette will conduct Memorial Day services on Monday, May 25 at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery and at 10:15 a.m. at Park Cemetery in Marquette.

V.A. Romo Post, VFW Post 3165, will have its annual Memorial Day parade at 10 a.m. Monday, May 25 along Iron Street in Negaunee. Services will be held at 11 a.m. at the Negaunee Cemetery, with services at Northland Chapel Gardens immediately following.

American Legion Post 349 of Little Lake’s Honor Guard will conduct Memorial Day services at 10 a.m. Monday, May 25 at the Gwinn Cemetery. They also conduct services at 12:30 p.m. at the McFarland Cemetery and at 2:30 p.m. at the West Branch Township Cemetery.

A Memorial Day observance will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 25 at Lakeview Cemetery in Michigamme. Local servicemen will serve as color guard. Speaker will be Gordon Schultz. Refreshments will be served at the Michigamme Community Building after the service. The Michigamme Historical Museum will open for the season. Hours are noon to 5 p.m. daily. In the event of inclement weather, the observance will take place in the community building.

Republic’s annual Memorial Day parade will take place at 9:30 a.m. Monday, May 25. There will be a program at 10 a.m. at the veterans memorial at Republic Township Cemetery. Members of VFW Post 5014 and other veterans will participate. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Katherine Finegan of Bethany Lutheran Church. The Republic-Michigamme High School band will perform. Refreshments will be served after the program at Republic Township Hall. In the event of inclement weather, the memorial program will be held at Republic-Michigamme High School.

American Legion Post 559 of Rock and its auxiliary will conduct Memorial Day ceremonies at 10 a.m. Monday, May 25 at the Rock Cemetery. Speaker will be the Rev. Vernon Norman, assistant pastor of Living Faith Fellowship Church in Gwinn. In the event of inclement weather, the Rock and Perkins legions will hold a joint ceremony at 11 a.m. at the Perkins Lions Club.
