TAKING THE TIME TO NOT TAKE THINGS FOR GRANTED.

A FINE GAGGLE OF YOOPERS!

A FINE GAGGLE OF YOOPERS!

One of the great things about this job here on the show is the chance to meet the great people that make up our community.  Now before you zip through this thinking that I’m on some sentimental ramble about the “love and happiness” we all have for each other, think again.  It’s not that we all are coming from the same side of the issues and problems nor are we always in agreement when it comes to solutions.  What I am talking about is the people who make things happen here in our own backyard.  From the politicos to the po’ folk!  Those of us from Upper Michigan know what I am talking about.  And those from Marquette County REALLY know.  Yoopers are obstinate yet sensitive to the people around them and their issues and concerns, and we do something about it!  Apathy does not run rampant in our hometowns.

YOOPERS MOVE AHEAD AND TAKE ON THE TOUGH FIGHTS!

HEADING NORTH OVER THE BRIDGE TO THE GOOD FOLKS IN THE U.P.!

HEADING NORTH OVER THE BRIDGE TO THE GOOD FOLKS IN THE U.P.!

To continue on, what I mean is that over the last couple of weeks, if you’ve been following along at home, “Mark & Walt in the Morning” has been a hotbed of activity featuring the type of folks that I am talking about.  From the controversial U.P. Congressman Bart Stupak, who is fighting for his beliefs through his amendment in the National Health Care Reform Bill, to the brave candidates who stepped out of their comfort zones in the contentious Negaunee City Council race, they have all been here, on the air.  But it’s not just the political types that I’m talking about.  Over the last few weeks, we’ve been packed full of guests who have joined us to promote various fundraiser and benefit events and activities that help out their fellow Yoopers and beyond.  This kind of care and concern from the grassroots of the U.P. and here in Marquette County is heartening.  And I have to admit, meeting all of those folks through this morning show has been grand.  LET’S KEEP IT UP!

A SPECIAL PERSON STEPS UP.

ERIKA HEFKE IN THE STUDIOS.

ERIKA HEFKE IN THE STUDIOS.

On that note, thanks to Erika Hefke for stopping in this morning to tell us about a special benefit concert tomorrow night at the UpFront & Company in Marquette that will help her raise funds for the research of the cure for Crohn’s Disease and Colitis.  She has had the disease for the past 20 years, but she has managed it and she has pledged to raise $4000 to help in the research efforts.  She will be turning the money in when she goes to take part in a special Half-Marathion event in Las Vegas in December.  To find out more about Erika’s efforts , you can listen to her interview by clicking “HERE“.  If you would like to contribute to her effort, please click “HERE“.

THAT’S A WRAP!!

Hey gang!  I think I’ve rambled on enough today. Thanks for following along at home, or wherever you are doing.  We’ll see you later here on the Big ‘Ol Blog!
