MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)– As the Christmas season approaches, the Great Lakes Center For Youth Development in Marquette sees this as a time for parents and other adults to teach youth a variety of life lessons.

Paul Olson, with the GLCYD, joined Mark & Walt in the Morning today to discuss that concept.  He outlined how by taking kids out shopping that they can learn empathy for others and develop an understanding of supporting others who may be less fortunate.

He also talked about how doing seasonal good deeds can develop a strong work ethic as well as a clear sense of civic duty and personal responsibility in youth that will carry over into adulthood.

WE WISH YOU A MERRY CHRISTMAS!

MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM BALLOON SANTA!

Well folks, here it is…another Christmas season and another chance to look back and reflect on another year of morning bliss.  It’s actually been a great year and Mark and I have had a lot of fun bringing this ever-lovin’ show to you every weekday morning!  It’s always fun to chat with all of you who have joined us on the show over the year.  We hope you have enjoyed listening as well!

We hope that you and yours have a very Merry Christmas and it leads into a safe and prosperous New Year!  We are looking forward to 2011 and really can’t wait to get started!

But first we need to get through Christmas and all of it’s fun and frivolity AND presents!

A SPECIAL GIFT FROM US TO YOU!

BARRY MACGREGOR

Speaking of gifts, here is a special one for you.  We have played this bit over the years every Christmas and it really sums up the mood of the season.

It’s a a recording of Barry MacGregor, a Shakespearean actor from the Stratford Festival in Ontario reading the Holiday classic, “Twas The Night Before Christmas”.  Turn up your speakers and give it a play.

If this doesn’t get you in the Christmas spirit, NOTHING will! Enjoy!

YOUR GIFTS WERE DELIVERED TO THE VETERANS TODAY.

GATHERING AT THE JACOBETTI HOME WITH ALL OF THE PRESENTS!

Thank you.  That simple phrase echoed through the halls of the Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette this morning as we delivered all of your gifts to the veterans who live at the home.  Occasionally it was replaced by the Finnish word “Kiitos” which is how us Finlanders say thank you!  We said it to the veterans and they said it to us.  It was a mutual expression of gratitude brought forth by our annual “Remember Our Veterans At Christmas” effort.

VETERANS GATHER AROUND THE GIFTS!

Thanks to the support of Biolife Plasma Services of Marquette, we were able to get the message out to all of you about the need for simple, yet important, items needed at the Jacobetti Home for Veterans.  And you all stepped up and responded in true Yooper fashion…well beyond our expectations!  Delivering the several carts full of items and your financial contributions to the home was truly a joy this morning!  It always does one good during the Holiday season to help out those in need, but it’s also important to remember that the need knows no season.  The Jacobetti Home for Veterans is constantly facing an uphill battle for funding for items, programs and more.  Take the time to find out more about the home and how you can help!  Remember, if you can’t help financially, then give of your time.  Volunteers are always needed at the Jacobetti Home for Veterans.  To find out more about the home, please click “HERE“.

THANK YOU ALL AGAIN, AND MERRY CHRISTMAS!

-Walt

SLIGHTLY GRINCHY MARK AND THAT DARN SINGING SNOWMAN!!

SLIGHTLY GRINCHY MARK AND THAT DARN SINGING SNOWMAN!!

Be sure you have a safe and enjoyable Holiday and that you take the care to exercise caution and use a designated driver if you have too much to drink when you party at your Uncle Bill’s house!  We certainly don’t want you to be a news story on Monday morning!  And remember the real reason for the season this Christmas!

We always like to goof around on the show and don’t always take things so seriously, but now is the time to be serious and enjoy the spirit of Christmas.  Spend the time and energy to show someone close to you what the Christmas spirit means to you!  It’s worth it!

BE SAFE, BE HEALTHY AND WISE, AND WE’LL SEE YOU SOON!

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Hauskaa Joulua!

-MARK & WALT
