HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY TO YOU ALL!!

THE REAL WAY TO GO GREEN!

Ahhhhh!  A sure sign of spring is upon us.  It’s St. Patrick’s Day.  The day where many of us celebrate the Irish spirit with Irish spirits and the wearin’ o’ the green!

When I was getting dressed this morning I thought that I should wear something green and what’s more appropriate that an Aaron Rodgers Green Bay Packer jersey?  Looks pretty good, doesn’t it?

As I said this morning, it’s not so much “Erin Go Bragh” as it is “Aaron!  Go Long!”

THE SUPER BOWL IS UPON US, SO HERE’S A SUPER BLOG UPDATE!!

THE LEGENDARY ETTA FROM THE SCREENED IMAGE IN MARQUETTE SAYS "GO PACK GO!"

So here it is…the Friday before Super Bowl XLV featuring the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers.  As Packer fans, we remain cautiously optimistic going in to the game.  This is due to the fact that we are long-time Packer fans and we recognize the fact that if there is any team that can take this game and crush the opposition for a victory, it is the Green Bay Packers.  Conversely, we also know that if there is any team that can collapse and be crushed by the opposition into painful defeat, it is the Green Bay Packers!

But that is exactly what makes being a member of the Packer Nation so great!  The Packers are a true, working class blue-collar team from the Midwest with very little flash.  They play football out in the cold, win when they can and take their lumps when they have to.  They understand the ups and downs of the game and how that mirrors life.  For every Aaron Rodgers there’s a Tony Mandarich.  We know it can go either way!  But what is consistent and strong is that there is no arrogant owner, no Hollywood players, no domed stadium…they don’t even have cheerleaders.  The Green Bay Packers play rough and tumble football and being a fan is a great ride!  So on that note, as the Super Bowl draws near…GO PACK GO!

THE BIG GAME BLOWOUT HAS A WINNER!

TERRI GOVERN GETS THE GIFT CARD FROM WALT.

We would like to thank ECONO FOODS of Marquette for their partnership with Mark and Walt in the Morning to bring you the “Big Game Blowout”!  We awarded the prize, a $250.00 gift card from ECONO FOODS this morning after gathering several entrants over the past two weeks.

Many of you played and many entered, but our congratulations go to Terri Govern of Negaunee who was the winner of our “Extra-Special Victory Toss”.  She now has that gift card and will be planning a big blowout for the Big Game!  We congratulate her and thank her as well as all of you who took part and played along!

WHY THE “BIG GAME” AND NOT THE “SUPER BOWL”?

THE REAL JOHN FACENDA.

So the question has come up as to why we occasionally refer to the Super Bowl as the “Big Game”.  The reason is simple.  The National Football League has a very strong grip on all of the copyrights connected to the event.  This also includes the names of the teams and many other bits.  We could write it all out here, but we think posting this clip from today’s show will fill you in.

It’s Mark reading the opening paragraph from our station’s legal department explaining the reasons why we can’t use the term “Super Bowl” in any commercial announcements.  He is doing his impersonation of the great John Facenda, the original voice-over announcer for NFL films.  Enjoy!

DANG IT FEELS GOOD TO BE A PACKER FAN!

I know, I know, I know.  You’re reading that header after Sunday’s overtime loss to Arizona and you’re saying to yourself, “What the heck is he talking about?”.  Well, yes, the loss was a bummer, and yes, it stinks to get knocked out of the playoffs, and yes, it would have felt good to keep moving on, but come on, the season was not that bad.  We came out 11-6 and made it into the playoffs.  That wasn’t supposed to happen, according to many pigskin pundits, but it did, and that is a sign of success.  In my opinion, many aspects of the team showed an overall togetherness that had not existed on that squad for a while.  They rejoiced in glee and recoiled in pain together as a unit.  THAT is what it takes to win, and all I can say is “Just wait until next year, man!…Just wait.”

ANOTHER WEEK OF WINNING IS UNDERWAY!

HAPPY, HAPPY!  JOY, JOY!

NOTHING LIKE A NEW YEAR'S CHICKEN!

LEAVE IT TO A CHICKEN TO MAKE YOU FEEL BETTER!

Here’s to a Happy New Year to all of you around the Central Upper Michigan region!  I hope all went well for you over the recent holiday and you all had good times.  Of course, now it’s time to get back to work, and that it what we are all struggling with today, I’m sure.  One thing I did find interesting this past weekend was how many people said that they are hoping for things to get better in 2010!  It sounded like many of you have had some pretty rough times in the past twelve months.  Here’s hoping that things do get better for you and the new year will perform better than the old one!  Here’s to the NEW 2010!

GLEE (Part 2) AND THE PACKERS IN THE PLAYOFFS!

RODGERS SOARS OVER THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE FOR THE TOUCHDOWN! LOVE IT!! (photo: Jim Biever, PACKERS.COM )

Love them Green Bay Packers!  Love that Aaron Rodgers, Donald Driver, Charles Woodson, Ahman Green, well, you know…LOVE ‘EM ALL!  I rather enjoyed yesterday’s decisive win over the Arizona Cardinals, and it’s set up for the rematch this Sunday evening in Arizona.  I really enjoyed seeing some great offensive (see left) and some great defensive work as well!   I believe it will serve as the harbinger of the game this Sunday.  Onward and Upward, Green and Gold!  To the Promised Land!

GO PACK GO!

GO PACK

GO!  GO!  PACK!  GO!

SO THE YEAR BEGINS!

So this is 2010.  So far, from a Green Bay Packer fan’s perspective at least, it seems to be off to a good start.  It seems like it was an overall mellow New Year’s Eve with no real problems, and no massive tragedies.  So far so good for 2010, everyone!

Peace!

A MONDAY AFTER A SUNDAY OF “MEH” PACKER FOOTBALL.

The stage was set, the house was full, the legends were in attendance.  It was all there to be a great day to be a Packer!  The crowd had green and gold blood pulsing through their veins.  The players hit the field with a self-assured stance that seemed to say, “Welcome to the house that Vince built.  Now get ready to get stuffed!”  The music blared, the flyover rocked, the kickoff exploded in a cacophony of thousands of Packer faithful bursting with the excitement of an impending win on a gorgeous Sunday during the final weekend of the summer.  GO PACK GO!!  There was no place better in the world to see a great football game, than Lambeau Field!!!

And then…

a great football game didn’t happen.

The Packers looked good at times, but Cincinnati looked better.   Poor Aaron Rodgers…sacked five times (probably before he knew what hit him)!!  Pass protection?  I guess they left it in the locker room!  Defense?  Not around…I mean, the Packers let the Bengals get a first down from a 3rd and 34!  And they just ran out of time in the end.  Not enough “hurry-up” offense when they needed it, I guess.    Oh well, it is classic Green Bay Packer football, and I am damn sure going to follow it next week and the week after that, and so on!  So it’s off to to play the Rams next week.  I guess we’ll chat about it here then!

TODAY’S SHOW WAS A HEALTHY ONE!

NATASHA GILL FROM THE NORTHERN VEGANS.

NATASHA GILL FROM THE NORTHERN VEGANS.

MAIN STREET MONDAY WAS A TOUGHIE!

MARK HIDES BEHIND THE MIGHTY STACK OF CARTOON EXPERTS.

MARK HIDES BEHIND THE MIGHTY STACK OF CARTOON EXPERTS.

Or so Mark thought!  He wanted to commemorate the birthday of Chuck Jones, the classic Warner Brothers animator who helped to create the legends of all of those classic Looney Tunes characters.  He came up with a clip of a very obscure character, but there were more than a few of you who knew who it was we were looking for.  Congratulations to Veronica from Marquette who knew we were looking for the elusive “Little John”!   She was the proud recipient of two fourteen-inch three-topping pizzas from Main Street Pizza.

GOOD SHOW, BUT NOW IT’S TIME TO GO!

Catch you all here on the internetz again soon!
