TODAY IS A SPECIAL DAY.

Today is Veterans Day.   It gives Americans the opportunity to celebrate the bravery and sacrifice of all U.S. veterans. However, most Americans confuse this holiday with Memorial Day, reports the Department of Veterans Affairs.  What’s more, some Americans don’t know why we commemorate our Veterans on November 11-th. It’s imperative that all Americans know the history of Veterans Day so that we can honor our former service members properly. FACTS ABOUT VETERANS DAY.

+ There are over 23.3 million military veterans in the United States alone.
+ The civilian workforce in the Defense Department is made up of 43% Veterans.
+ There is no apostrophe at the end of Veterans because the day is meant to celebrate all Veterans, it does    not belong to them.
+ Although some people associate red poppies with Veterans Day, those flowers are actually worn on Memorial Day to honor service people who have died.

A SPECIAL EVENT HAPPENING LOCALLY.

The D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette will host a tribute to military veterans from 11 a.m. to noon today in the chapel.  This year’s Veteran’s Day program is presented by the Marine Corps League. AND ONE MORE THING…

Thanks to Mike Koppinger, with the Forgotten Eagles for stopping in this morning for an unexpected visit.  He was on his way to the Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette to make a check presentation on behalf of the group.  He joined us to discuss who the Forgotten Eagles are, what they do and how they help veterans in need and their families.  His visit put a great exclamation point on the day, and to listen to the interview, please click “HERE“.

HAVE A GOOD VETERANS DAY, AND THANK A VETERAN FOR ALL THEY HAVE DONE FOR OUR COUNTRY AND OUR FREEDOMS.
