LET”S GET THE WEEKEND STARTED!

Hey gang!  It’s Friday and it’s time to get that Marquette County weekend going!  There’s some decent weather on the horizon and whole bunch of activities going on, so might as well get on out and enjoy it while you can!  Like I always say, don’t take it for granted, just take it in!  And if you are looking for something different to experience, or you just feel like you’ve eaten it all and nothing sounds interesting, then keep reading on, dear blogger.

REAL CHINESE CUISINE COMES TO MARQUETTE.

JASON HARPER AND "CHINESE CUISINE 101"

Jason Harper, a recent graduate of Northern Michigan University who is now employed as an international educator at Fort Hayes State University in Kansas,  joined us this week to tell us about a fascinating book.   At first glance, it appears to be a cookbook, but is actually so much more.  The volume is called Chinese Cuisine 101 and was written by his English Composition students in China.  This unique book not only features true, authentic Chinese recipes, it also features stories and anecdotal recollections  about the dishes written by the students who submitted them.  It is a fun and educational read that will stimulate your mind and appetite simultaneously!  To listen to Jason’s comments and to find out about a special cooking demonstration coming up soon using a recipe from the book and locally-grown organic foods, please click “HERE“.  For more on the book, please click “HERE“.

AN UPDATE FROM THE “Y”.

LISA COOMBS-GEROU FROM THE "Y"

Executive Director of the YMCA of Marquette County, Lisa Coombs-Gerou stopped by our new studios this week to give us an update on events and activities going on at the “Y”.  She also outlined some of the changes that are going on with the organization on both a local and a national level.  She filled us in on the latest planned events for youth and adults for this fall and how you can get involved with the organization.  To listen to the comments from our interview with Lisa, please click “HERE“.  To log on to the website of the YMCA of Marquette County, please click “HERE“.

THE UNITED WAY KEEPS ROLLING ON!

MARQUETTE COUNTY'S NEWEST MORNING RADIO TEAM, "SUE & STU IN THE MORNING"

Sue Minckler, campaign co-ordinator with the United Way of Marquette County and Stu Bradley, community supporter, joined us to give us a general update on the organization and it’s efforts to raise funds for it’s member agencies.  Sue and Stu (what a great name for a duo!) also gave us the latest on this year’s campaign co-chairs and when the annual fundraising push will be getting started.  To find out more about who the co-chairs are going to be this year, and for more about the United Way, please click “HERE” to listen to the interview.  To log on to the United Way of Marquette County website, please click “HERE“.

THAT’S A WRAP FOR ANOTHER WEEK!

So, as you can see, the community is alive an well and active as ever.  We hope to keep you connected to all that’s going on in your neighborhood.  All you have to do is keep listening to “Mark & Walt in the Morning” on Sunny 101.9 and keep tagging along here on the blog.  Don’t worry, we’ll do all of the heavy lifting!
