A NEW FACE IN THE PLACE!

MARQUETTE AREA PUBLIC SCHOOL'S NEW ATHLETIC COORDINATOR, JAMIE TUMA.

MARQUETTE AREA PUBLIC SCHOOL'S NEW ATHLETIC COORDINATOR, JAMIE TUMA.

Today was a day of meeting a new face and looking to the future.  A good day to say “hello” and look ahead.  The Marquette Area Public Schools Board of Education announced at their meeting last night that the district had worked out an issue pertaining to the leadership of the athletic department.

The following is from the district’s official release:

Marquette Area Public Schools (MAPS) Athletic Director Mark Mattson submitted his resignation on July 17 to begin a new career at Glen Lake Community Schools.

MAPS staff member Jamie Tuma has been named to the position of MAPS K-12 Athletic Coordinator for the 2009-2010 school year.  Mrs. Tuma was originally hired in 2006 as a Marquette classroom teacher.  She is a longtime district resident with strong and active interest in Marquette’s sports program.  “I’m thrilled to accept this opportunity to become part of the great MAPS Athletics program that Mark Mattson has shaped,” she stated.   “I’m confident this will be a positive experience for me, Marquette student athletes, parents and coaches.”

“After discussing Marquette’s short- and long-term sports program needs with Mrs. Tuma, we were convinced she will bring enthusiasm and skill to this important position,” said Superintendent of Schools Jon Hartwig.  “Her experiences as an educator, parent and community member, coupled with strong support from staff, will combine to provide advocacy for our athletes, their parents and MAPS sports program.  Above everything else, Mrs. Tuma is an exemplary educator who believes in the value and mission of public schools.”

Mr. Mattson will remain in his current position as Marquette’s athletic director throughout the transition process.

THE NEW PERSON STOPPED IN THIS MORNING.

We had a chance to sit down with Jamie this morning and talk about her new role in the district.  To listen to the raw, unedited interview, click “HERE” to listen in.

THE MORE THINGS CHANGE, THE MORE THEY STAY THE SAME!

Interestingly enough, the actions involving changes with MAPS athletics also include some things that have stayed the same…you’ll just have to wait until tomorrow to hear more about that.

Until then,

CIAO!
