MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The Gwinn Community School District has introduced a new automated telephone messaging system to be used by the administration to disseminate emergency and other information to students, parents and community members.

Kim VanDrese, Superintendent of the Gwinn Community Schools, joined SUNNY 101.9’s Mark & Walt in the Morning to discuss this new system and how it will serve to benefit the community.

She explained how the new system can be used to announce school closings and more and can also be used to get important information home to parents with one phone call.

Negaunee, Michigan March 5, 2011 – Mark Evans and Walt Lindala jumped into the very frigid Teal Lake water to support Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) Polar Plunge Saturday.

The proceeds from the registrations for the plunge, costume parade, and donations goes to Special Olympics Michigan to help support continued athletic activities for nearly 19,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities in Michigan.

The day’s events began with registration at 11:00am at Pasquali’s, followed by a Costume Parade at 1:00p, the Plunge at Teal Lake at 2:00p, and finished with a Plunge Party and Ceremony at 4:00p back at Pasquali’s.

As the video shows, Mark and Walt thought it was a very, very cool event.
