SAY HEY!! BACK WITH MAIN STREET MONDAY!

So it may be a bit scattered still, but we are bringing elements of the show back and you guys certainly seem to have been waiting for them with bated breath!  Today marked the return of “Today in Music History” and of course, the ever-popular classic-cartoon trivia based “Main Street Monday”.  And boy, were you guys ready for it!

“MAIN STREET MONDAY” CRUSHES THE WEAK (WELL, NOT REALLY!!

MARK MODELS THE STACK OF MAIN STREET MONDAY CORRECT ANSWERS.

This week, to mark the return of Main Street Monday Classic Carton Trivia, Mark decided to go with a tough question.  He threw down a so-called “triple diamond” of a a challenge that he was sure was going to weed out the weak.  The question was actually a revision of a question suggested by longtime listener Bruce L. from Negaunee.  It had to do with cartoons  dating to 1960 featuring Tooter Turtle.  The correct answer was “Mr. Wizard” and MANY of you knew that.  As you can see from the photo, the stack of correct entries was quite a bit larger than expected!

Congratulations to Kelly from Munising having the luck of being the winner of our very first MSM “Victory Toss” in our new studios.  She now walks away secure in the knowledge that she is a bona fide cartoon trivia expert and has picked up a certificate for two 14″ 3-topping pizzas from Main Street Pizza!  Good for her!

BACK ON TUESDAY!

So that’s a wrap for today, but we should be back in full force tomorrow at 6:00am all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.  And, OK, that’s a lie!  We’ll be back, but not quite so full of body, if you know what I mean.

SEE YA!

IT’S MONDAY AND ANOTHER WEEK IS UNFOLDING!

THIS IS MY CAT, MERLIN. HE IS VERY MELLOW. I NEED TO BE MORE LIKE HIM.

What a week this is going to be.  I say that based on how this morning went.  Special events in our community, a huge listener day, and the construction has begun at the new Great Lakes Radio studio space!  A lot of information, a lot of fun and a lot of sawdust!  And it’s only Monday!  Looks like it’s shaping up to be quite an eventful week here at the radio ranch!  Everybody better buckle up and hang on!  It’s gonna be a heckuva ride!  And of course, we’ll be right here on your radio dial to keep you company through the whole process.

FRIENDS OUTSIDE OF THE MALL.

MARK PEEKS IN ON DAN TORRES FROM THE BORDER GRILL AND BIKE RIDE ORGANIZER BOBBI AYOTTE.

Outside of the mall this morning, the folks with the “Bike to Work” initiative set up a pit stop for folks who were taking part in the effort.  Representatives with the Marquette County Health Department as well as the Border Grill were on hand to meet and greet with bikers headed to work.  Fresh beverages and breakfast treats!  How can you go wrong?  It was a great morning for a ride, if you remembered to bring a jacket and touque for under your helmet.  There was a frost advisory in effect this morning until 8-am!  Happy June!

FRIENDS ON THE AIR.

MARK HOLDS THIS MORNING'S BIG STACK OF ENTRIES FOR MAIN STREET MONDAY.

Main Street Monday was a knockout today with a huge stack of entries.  Congratulations to Jan B. of Marquette who was the latest winner.  She knew we were looking for “Popeye”! She was the winner of the victory toss, beating out a stack of dozens of entries.  Way to go, Jan, and thanks for listening!  Enjoy the 2 – 14″ pizzas from Main Street Pizza!  She mentioned she was new to the show and the contest, so what a great way to welcome her to the family of Mark & Walt in the Morning!

A NEW SPACE FOR US TO HANG OUT WITH OUR FRIENDS.

YOURS TRULY, TODD NOORDYK, LUKE NOORDYK AND MARK AT THE CONSTRUCTION SITE.

And after the show, Mark and I took a little jaunt up to our new Great Lakes Radio Studio and Office space.  The walls are getting framed in today for the new studios and production space and it is exciting to see!  If you want to see more, head on over to www.greatlakesradio.org for the latest photos of our move.  It’s going to get crazy over here real soon, and we ask that you bear with us as the moving project continues!

MARCH IS HERE.  TAKE THAT AS YOU WILL.

ONE MEAN LEPRECHAUN

It’s a new month and a new work week.  Monday, the first day of March.  I guess it looks like it’s coming in like a lamb, so I hope it doesn’t go out with the double-barreled roar of an angry lion!  Of course it’s been nice over the last day or so, and the next few days look pretty good, but don’t forget…we always seem to get a good wintry smackdown right around the time of St.Patrick’s Day.  Believe me, it’s not over yet!  Beware the Angry Leprechaun!  Don’t put the shovels and swampers away yet, my fellow Yoopers.  Winter has not released us from it’s wintry grip yet!

BEWARE THE IDES OF MARCH!!!  Or something.

MAIN STREET PIZZA MAKES FOR A GREAT MAIN STREET MONDAY!

BUGS LOOKS OVER THE TITLE.

Thanks to Ryan W. of Negaunee who knew that the original animator who put pen to paper and created the world-famous Warner Brothers classic cartoon character ‘Bugs Bunny’ was the one and only Tex Avery.  Tex also put his stamp on the creation of ‘Daffy Duck” before jumping ship and heading over to M-G-M to make his name in cartoons ranging from Tom and Jerry to Droopy Dog.  For his knowledge, Ryan picked up 2 14-inch three-topping pizzas from Main Street Pizza.  Well done, sir!

THAT’S IT FOR TODAY!

Catch you all again here on the internetz, kids!  Have a good one!

HELLO GANG!  I’M BACK!

LIL' ED & THE BLUES IMPERIALS LIVE IN CHICAGO!

I see all is well here in radioland.  No blog updates from Mark, though.  TSK, TSK, it’s not that hard to do, but I know he’s busy! (chuckle) It was great to get away even for a couple of days.  I had a ball in Chicago!  Great food, live blues and a few other fun experiences gave me a moment to clear my head and get back into the grown-up world.  And as always, a couple of days away was just good for the soul!  Fun was had by all, but now, it’s time for getting back to work.

THE PINK WARRIOR AWARENESS CAMPAIGN ROLLS ON!

MARCY, CONNIE AND BONNIE IN THE STUDIO.

Thanks to Bonnie Kilpela the creator of this unique an inspirational calendar featuring survivors of breast cancer for turning out such a successful effort.  She was successful on many levels and the effort has resulted in over $10,000 being raised for the Beacon House in Marquette.  She was joined in the studio today by one of the models, Connie Rhoades as well as the executive director of the Beacon House, Marcy Griffen, to talk more about the calendar.  Click “HERE” to listen to the interview and click “HERE” for more about the Pink Warrior Project.

ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL MAIN STREET MONDAY!

MARK ON THE MSM VICTORY TOSS!

Congratulations to Sara from Marquette.  She knew we were looking for “THE THING” from the Fantastic Four cartoon.  The clue clip was a short one today, but she recognized his catchphrase “It’s CLOBBERIN’ time!”  As a result, she picked up 2-14″ 3-topping pizzas from Main Street Pizza for her enjoyment! It was a great way to start the week, and you’ll just have to tune in for more fun tomorrow on “Mark & Walt in the Morning”!

Until then–

A MONDAY AFTER A SUNDAY OF “MEH” PACKER FOOTBALL.

BART STARR & PAUL HORNUNG WITH MAX McGEE'S JERSEY. Photo from Packers.com.

The stage was set, the house was full, the legends were in attendance.  It was all there to be a great day to be a Packer!  The crowd had green and gold blood pulsing through their veins.  The players hit the field with a self-assured stance that seemed to say, “Welcome to the house that Vince built.  Now get ready to get stuffed!”  The music blared, the flyover rocked, the kickoff exploded in a cacophony of thousands of Packer faithful bursting with the excitement of an impending win on a gorgeous Sunday during the final weekend of the summer.  GO PACK GO!!  There was no place better in the world to see a great football game, than Lambeau Field!!!

And then…

a great football game didn’t happen.

AARON RODGERS TAKES THE FIELD, UNKNOWING OF HIS FATE. Photo from Packers.com.

AARON RODGERS TAKES THE FIELD, UNKNOWING OF HIS FATE. Photo from Packers.com.

The Packers looked good at times, but Cincinnati looked better.   Poor Aaron Rodgers…sacked five times (probably before he knew what hit him)!!  Pass protection?  I guess they left it in the locker room!  Defense?  Not around…I mean, the Packers let the Bengals get a first down from a 3rd and 34!  And they just ran out of time in the end.  Not enough “hurry-up” offense when they needed it, I guess.    Oh well, it is classic Green Bay Packer football, and I am damn sure going to follow it next week and the week after that, and so on!  So it’s off to to play the Rams next week.  I guess we’ll chat about it here then!

TODAY’S SHOW WAS A HEALTHY ONE!

NATASHA GILL FROM THE NORTHERN VEGANS.

MAIN STREET MONDAY WAS A TOUGHIE!

MARK HIDES BEHIND THE MIGHTY STACK OF CARTOON EXPERTS.

MARK HIDES BEHIND THE MIGHTY STACK OF CARTOON EXPERTS.

Or so Mark thought!  He wanted to commemorate the birthday of Chuck Jones, the classic Warner Brothers animator who helped to create the legends of all of those classic Looney Tunes characters.  He came up with a clip of a very obscure character, but there were more than a few of you who knew who it was we were looking for.  Congratulations to Veronica from Marquette who knew we were looking for the elusive “Little John”!   She was the proud recipient of two fourteen-inch three-topping pizzas from Main Street Pizza.

GOOD SHOW, BUT NOW IT’S TIME TO GO!

Catch you all here on the internetz again soon!

A MONDAY AND A RETURN TO ACTIVITY IN TOWN!

It’s Monday morning and the students are back at good ol’ Northern Michigan University.  Suddenly, there’s several thousand more people in our sleepy little burg and that can be a double-edged sword!  It’s great to have the energy, enthusiasm, interaction and commerce that comes from new people and returning people in town, but it also increases the traffic, both vehicular and pedestrian, that we need to be aware of as we travel through Marquette and the surrounding communities.  And of course, don’t forget about the bikers and the skateboarders!  Watch out as you are driving about!

TALKIN’ POLITICS WITH THE STATE DEMOCRATIC PARTY CHAIR.

MI DEMOCRATIC PARTY CHAIR, MARK BREWER.

MAIN STREET MONDAY SEEMED TO STUMP A FEW!

Congratulations to Mike M., who was the winner today of Classic Cartoon Trivia on Main Street Monday.  He picked up 2-14″ three-topping pizzas for knowing the answer for the contest today was “SuperFriends”!  It seemed like we stumped quite a few of you today, but it’s good to throw you guys a challenge every now and then.  We’ll do it again next week thanks to Main Street Pizza!

FAREWELL TO THEE!

That’s it  for a fun-filled Monday!  Welcome back NMU…enjoy your time here in Marquette County.  It’s a pretty good time and worth the effort!

FAREWELL BILLY MAYS!

"HEY BILLY MAYS HERE FOR MARK & WALT IN THE MORNING!"

"HEY BILLY MAYS HERE FOR MARK & WALT IN THE MORNING!"

From the two loudmouths in the morning, we would like to say goodbye to the King of the Pitchmen, Billy Mays!  He was a true legend in direct marketing and realy knew how to sell a product.  Was he loud? Yes.  Was he confident? Yes.  Was he annoying?  Oh, yes.  But he had the skill of verbal communication and good old-fashioned snake oil showmanship that made you trust him enough that he was not selling you junk for $19.95, but the answer to all of your problems.  And of course, where would we be without the “But wait! There’s more!” angle that made the purchase just too unbelieveable!  Rest in Peace, King of Shop!   HHMMMMM…wait a minute…where was Shamwow/Slap Chop Vince on Saturday Night?  No…really….where was that little weasely guy?  Huh?  SOMEBODY ANSWER ME!!!

ON TODAY’S SHOW, HIS HONOR THE MAYOR OF MARQUETTE.

MARQUETTE MAYOR JOHN KIVELA.

MAIN STREET MONDAY WAS A SUPER-SMASH!!

Over 60 correct Classic Cartoon Trivia entries received in about 35 minutes!  What a stack and what a mess! Congratulations to Pam K. of Marquette who knew we were looking for “Mighty Mouse”.  She picked up two 14″, 3-topping pizzas from Main Street Pizza for her effort!  By the way, I understand she may have been a first-time listener who ended up winning on her first try!  Good for her!

ANOTHER WEEK IS UNDERWAY!

We’ll catch you all later.  Enjoy the week!

MONDAY…THE DAWNING OF A NEW WEEK IN MARQUETTE COUNTY!!

So here we are again after an all too brief and much too cold weekend across the part of the world we refer to as “God’s Country”.  If it really is “God’s Country”, wouldn’t He prefer it to be a little bit warmer?  I’m just asking, y’know…nothing personal.  This fluctuation in temperature patterns we are in is driving me absolutely bat-crazy!  The forecast over the next couple of days reads as follows:

Today: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 70.

Tuesday: Partly cloudy, with a high near 45.

Wednesday: Partly cloudy, with a high near 85.

Thursday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 59.

That’s pretty messed up, isn’t it?  Is it going to be hot?  Cold?  In between?  I love it!  Actually, I really don’t!  I’m ready for a steady and consistent holding pattern of temperatures in the mid to upper 70′s.  Is that too much to ask for?

MAIN STREET MONDAY PACKS THE STACK!

MARK TAKES AIM WITH THE MAIN STREET MONDAY STACK!

MARK TAKES AIM WITH THE MAIN STREET MONDAY STACK!

Today was another banner day for the Main Street Monday Classic Cartoon Trivia.  Dozens of listeners called in with the correct answer to our question, which was, “What was the first name of the lead Keebler elf?”  Congratulations to Michael O. of Marquette who knew the answer was “Ernie”.  Thanks to

AND THE MSM VICTORY TOSS IS LAUNCHED!

AND THE MSM VICTORY TOSS IS LAUNCHED!

everyone who called in and good luck next week, when we do it again!  As you can see here, the “correct entry” stack was full and Mark was ready to take aim to throw the stack for the winner.  After sizing the stack up, he gave it good throw, and the rest, is as they say, history!

MONDAY UNDERWAY AND WE’RE OFF!

Hope all is well with everyone.  Have a good Monday and tune in tomorrow morning for more Mark & Walt in the Morning on the radio and on the blog!
