WHO DAT? DAT’S DA CHAMPS!  WHATADOO EVERYBODY!

FROM NEW ORLEANS WITH LOVE!

Well shut my mouth and call me a biscuit! Whooo-eeee! Dem Saints done won the Super Bowl!  I wanted it to happen, but I didn’t think it would happen.  It was a great game all around.  I have to admit that I really wasn’t that personally invested in either squad, but I fully enjoyed yesterday’s tilt between the Colts and the Saints!  I’ll tell you, though, at times, I was actually INTO the game! Wow! And even most of the commercials were pretty entertaining as well!  So, congratulations to the New Orleans Saints for the win and a big ol’ “sorry” to  the Colts for the loss.  Now, of course, we must say “GO PACK GO!  GREEN BAY PACKERS – 2011 SUPER BOWL CHAMPS!!!

PRETTY BIG DAY TODAY!!

HE MIGHT AS WELL JUMP! IT'S HIS BIRTHDAY!

Hey gang!  You know how some days don’t have much associated with them and some others are packed with history?  We’ll check out today in history.  Today is Eddie Van Halen’s birthday, today is the day in 1837 that Michigan became a state in the union, today is the day that “The Dukes of Hazzard” premiered on CBS-TV in 1979 AND this is the day that the Green Bay Packers won the Super Bowl (interestingly enough, in New Orleans)!  Wow ! What a day in history!  I’m just happy to be a part of it today!  Of course, like I always say, every day above the grass is a good day!

DANG IT FEELS GOOD TO BE A PACKER FAN!

AARON RODGERS DEFLECTS A HIT IN SUNDAY'S SEASON-ENDER. (AP Photo)

I know, I know, I know.  You’re reading that header after Sunday’s overtime loss to Arizona and you’re saying to yourself, “What the heck is he talking about?”.  Well, yes, the loss was a bummer, and yes, it stinks to get knocked out of the playoffs, and yes, it would have felt good to keep moving on, but come on, the season was not that bad.  We came out 11-6 and made it into the playoffs.  That wasn’t supposed to happen, according to many pigskin pundits, but it did, and that is a sign of success.  In my opinion, many aspects of the team showed an overall togetherness that had not existed on that squad for a while.  They rejoiced in glee and recoiled in pain together as a unit.  THAT is what it takes to win, and all I can say is “Just wait until next year, man!…Just wait.”

ANOTHER WEEK OF WINNING IS UNDERWAY!

HAPPY, HAPPY!  JOY, JOY!

NOTHING LIKE A NEW YEAR'S CHICKEN!

LEAVE IT TO A CHICKEN TO MAKE YOU FEEL BETTER!

Here’s to a Happy New Year to all of you around the Central Upper Michigan region!  I hope all went well for you over the recent holiday and you all had good times.  Of course, now it’s time to get back to work, and that it what we are all struggling with today, I’m sure.  One thing I did find interesting this past weekend was how many people said that they are hoping for things to get better in 2010!  It sounded like many of you have had some pretty rough times in the past twelve months.  Here’s hoping that things do get better for you and the new year will perform better than the old one!  Here’s to the NEW 2010!

GLEE (Part 2) AND THE PACKERS IN THE PLAYOFFS!

Love them Green Bay Packers!  Love that Aaron Rodgers, Donald Driver, Charles Woodson, Ahman Green, well, you know…LOVE ‘EM ALL!  I rather enjoyed yesterday’s decisive win over the Arizona Cardinals, and it’s set up for the rematch this Sunday evening in Arizona.  I really enjoyed seeing some great offensive (see left) and some great defensive work as well!   I believe it will serve as the harbinger of the game this Sunday.  Onward and Upward, Green and Gold!  To the Promised Land!

GO PACK GO!

GO PACK

GO!  GO!  PACK!  GO!

SO THE YEAR BEGINS!

So this is 2010.  So far, from a Green Bay Packer fan’s perspective at least, it seems to be off to a good start.  It seems like it was an overall mellow New Year’s Eve with no real problems, and no massive tragedies.  So far so good for 2010, everyone!

Peace!

GO PACK GO!

Those of us who are faithful citizens of the Packer Nation, members of the G Force, supporters of the Green and Gold always believed it could happen this year.  We always felt it was attainable.  Now it’s here.  For the first time since 2007 our beloved rag-tag group of headcrushers has made it into the playoffs!  JOY!  Of course there is one regular season game remaining next week, but don’t look for much from the Packers.  Why risk injury to the starters?  Let them start the game, but give the backups some good, quality playing time.  It’s better for all involved.  Congratulations to our heroes for their commanding 48 to 10 victory over the pesky Seattle Seahawks, and here’s hoping for a string of wins culminating with a Super Bowl trophy!!  It would be darn fine to bring the Lombardi back to Green Bay!

OF COURSE, IT IS GREEN BAY FOOTBALL!

SO!  If you are a faithful follower of the Green Bay Packers, you know that getting into the playoffs is grand, but it really doesn’t mean a thing except for a slot at the big dance.  This is the kind of team that could be peaking at just the right time to run roughshod over the competition and never look back, or they could be a “one and out” kind of a team.  Only time will tell, but it was fun getting to this point this season.  Certainly some bits stunk (like the loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers last week), but it has been a significant improvement over last year’s “oh if we only could have” frustrating season.  We are Green Bay Packer football fans!  We love our Miller Lite and Johnsonville Brats and ee sure do love our Aaron Rodgers, Donald Driver, Greg Jennings and more!  They all look like they are having fun playing together and when that is the case, the team will be unstoppable!  Like we say…”GO PACK GO!!”

A VERY SPECIAL THANKS TO OUR SPECIAL GUEST THIS MORNING!

HEATHER EVANS WITH THE MAIN STREET MONDAY WINNING ENTRY!

HEATHER EVANS WITH THE MAIN STREET MONDAY WINNING ENTRY!

Thanks to the effervescent Heather Evans for joining us in the studio this morning for no apparent reason.  Although she claims she came by because she had not seen me for a while, I think her old man, Mark, put her up to it!  But she was a trooper and hung in there for four hours without even dozing off.  (That’s better than I can do!)  She even was courteous enough to volunteer her services to catch the “Main Street Monday Classic Cartoon Trivia Victory Toss”.   Her efforts resulted in a win for Tom B., a traveling sales rep from te Copper Country who happened to call us this morning from Munising!  Congratulations Tom on the win, and thanks to Heather for the catch!

And on that note-

THAT’S A WRAP!

THE BIRD-DAY APPROACHES!

THE BIRD (IS THE WORD).

THE BIRD (IS THE WORD).

It’s almost Thanksgiving, and that always gives me a moment to say “Thanks!”  Thanks to family and friends, thanks to those of you who listen to “Mark & Walt in the Morning”, thanks to those of you out there help keep us here in our radio world in business, and thanks to those who make us a part of your day.  I don’t know how Mark feels about it all, because he can be a bit of a grump sometimes, but I would tend to think he agrees with me on those Thank You’s!  Have a good Thanksgiving, travel safe and enjoy the time we have with friends and family.  That is really what is important at this time of year!

HELPING OUR TROOPS THIS HOLIDAY SEASON!

MICHELLE, KERSTEN AND SHELBY IN THE STUDIO

MICHELLE, KERSTEN AND SHELBY IN THE STUDIO.

Thanks to Michelle DeMitchell of Great Lakes Recovery Centers, Kersten Twohey of the Golden Z Club and Shelby Bischoff of MBank for joining us this morning to talk about the Great Giving initiative,  a local plan to collect and send care packages to our troops this holiday season.  The last day for donations is November 30th.  If you have a loved one serving and would like to make sure a care package reaches them directly, or if you are interested in volunteering, please contact Michelle DeMitchell at 906-228-9699 x 14. or email Mdemitchell@glrc.biz.  To listen to the freewheeling interview with Michelle, Kersten and Shelby, please click “HERE“.

HERE’S HOPING YOU HAVE A GREAT THANKSGIVING!

Be safe and don’t eat too much turkey.  Also, don’t drink and drive and make sure to pull for America’s Team, The Green Bay Packers in the Thanksgiving Classic Football Throwdown against the unworthy and lowly Detroit Lions.

See you all on Black Friday!

A MONDAY AFTER A SUNDAY OF “MEH” PACKER FOOTBALL.

The stage was set, the house was full, the legends were in attendance.  It was all there to be a great day to be a Packer!  The crowd had green and gold blood pulsing through their veins.  The players hit the field with a self-assured stance that seemed to say, “Welcome to the house that Vince built.  Now get ready to get stuffed!”  The music blared, the flyover rocked, the kickoff exploded in a cacophony of thousands of Packer faithful bursting with the excitement of an impending win on a gorgeous Sunday during the final weekend of the summer.  GO PACK GO!!  There was no place better in the world to see a great football game, than Lambeau Field!!!

And then…

a great football game didn’t happen.

The Packers looked good at times, but Cincinnati looked better.   Poor Aaron Rodgers…sacked five times (probably before he knew what hit him)!!  Pass protection?  I guess they left it in the locker room!  Defense?  Not around…I mean, the Packers let the Bengals get a first down from a 3rd and 34!  And they just ran out of time in the end.  Not enough “hurry-up” offense when they needed it, I guess.    Oh well, it is classic Green Bay Packer football, and I am damn sure going to follow it next week and the week after that, and so on!  So it’s off to to play the Rams next week.  I guess we’ll chat about it here then!

TODAY’S SHOW WAS A HEALTHY ONE!

NATASHA GILL FROM THE NORTHERN VEGANS.

NATASHA GILL FROM THE NORTHERN VEGANS.

Thanks to Natasha Gill from the group Northern Vegans for coming in today to tell us about a special film presentation going on tonight at the Peter White Public Library in Marquette that’s open to the public and will discuss the nutritional challenges we are facing as a society.  She also told us about a series upcoming events and activities being held by and hosted by the Northern Vegans.  to listen to the interview, please click “HERE“.  To log on to the Northern Vegans website and find out more about their group ant their events, click “HERE“.

MAIN STREET MONDAY WAS A TOUGHIE!

MARK HIDES BEHIND THE MIGHTY STACK OF CARTOON EXPERTS.

MARK HIDES BEHIND THE MIGHTY STACK OF CARTOON EXPERTS.

Or so Mark thought!  He wanted to commemorate the birthday of Chuck Jones, the classic Warner Brothers animator who helped to create the legends of all of those classic Looney Tunes characters.  He came up with a clip of a very obscure character, but there were more than a few of you who knew who it was we were looking for.  Congratulations to Veronica from Marquette who knew we were looking for the elusive “Little John”!   She was the proud recipient of two fourteen-inch three-topping pizzas from Main Street Pizza.

GOOD SHOW, BUT NOW IT’S TIME TO GO!

Catch you all here on the internetz again soon!

-Walt

SO HERE WE GO AGAIN!  IT’S ALL THE SAME, YET DIFFERENT, Y’KNOW??!!?

BBBOOOOO!!! HISSSSS!!!

BBBOOOOO!!! HISSSSS!!!

So Brett Favre has now signed with the Minnesota Vikings.  Good luck with that, Vikes!  The lates stunt by this guy has brought renewed interest and fresh excitement into the NFL, and he hasn’t had to fight any dogs to do it!   Y’know, on that note, Michael Vick is probably the happiest NFL player this week with the latest chapter of “As the Favre Turns”.  With the spotlight now firmly on Favre, Vick has to be counting his lucky stars that another quarterback is the media focus.

FAVRE’S A TURNCOAT “4″ SURE!

TRY THAT ON FOR SIZE, BRETT!

TRY THAT ON FOR SIZE, BRETT!

I’m alright with the fact that Favre says he still wants to play the game.  I am alright with him feeling like he still has something to give to the game.  I understand the competitive nature and the desire to keep playing.  But for the VIKINGS??!!??  That simply makes the whole thing somewhat personal.  He now will play AGAINST the team that he was a legacy player for!  They’re in the same division and play each other twice in one season.  It will be like the name of the movie “There Will Be Blood”!  Just ask Nick Barnett, with the Packers, he says he can’t wait to play against Favre and lay a big hit or two on the quarterback!!  That means October and early November will be violent.

THE PROGNOSTICATION IS BEGINNING!!

SMILIN' BILL TIBOR IS LISTENING FOR A PACKERS SUPER BOWL!!

SMILIN' BILL TIBOR IS CALLING FOR A PACKERS SUPER BOWL!!

Our in-house Green Bay Packer expert, Bill Tibor, has predicted a bombshell, so I decided to write it down and log it here in the blog in case he ends up being correct!  His theory is that Favre will be severely embarrassed on the field during the game against the Packers in Minnesota in October and will go on to suffer a questionable injury in the game prior to the scheduled Vikings/Packers tilt at Lambeau Field in November.  Favre will be listed as day-to-day leading up to that game and the Vikings will go on to Lambeau Field WITHOUT BRETT FAVRE!!!! He will sit out the game at Lambeau due to injury and one of the most eagerly anticipated games in NFL history will be a dud!  Time will tell if Bill was correct!

THAT’S ENOUGH OF THAT CLAPTRAP!!

Hey, let’s get outside and enjoy that rest of the Summer!  Football season will be here soon enough.  Heck, it’s still Baseball Season and there’s a lot of time to get together a couple of games of BOCCE BALL as well!

See ya!

-Walt

HEY GANG!  THE WEATHER’S FINALLY NICE!

Since it looks like today is a relatively nice day in Marquette County, today’s blog is going be direct and to the point.  GET OUT AND ENJOY THE WEATHER!  There is a ton of events and activities going on in and around Marquette County today and this weekend and it would be ridiculous to not take the time to take it all in!  From Pioneer Days in Negaunee to the Strawberry Festival in Chassell, it’s what summer’s all about!

FROM THE SHOW TO YOU!

THE DIRTY TURNCOAT! HE CAN JUST GO "FAVRE" AWAY!

THE DIRTY TURNCOAT! HE CAN JUST GO "FAVRE" AWAY!

As we mentioned on the show today, there’s a great Brett Favre picture floating around the internet.   Mark snagged on to it and here it is!  I guess it’s building up the perfect set up for the Packers-Vikings tilt this fall.  I think he’s going to get crushed…but as Mark said, NOT by a Packer player, but by Packer FANS!  Remember, “Mark & Walt in the Morning” is a Green Bay Packer Football fan-based show.  Not a Brett Favre fan-based show!  One the season opens, to quote Hoyt Axton, “…let the chips fall where they may!”

It’s too bad that his fantastic football legacy has to be smeared at the end like it has become.  Confusing, uncertain and ultimately, sad.

We want Aaron!

GO PACK GO!

ENJOY THE WEEKEND!

Like I always say, don’t take it for granted, just take it in!  It’s a fun-filled weekend around Marquette County and really, it’s your duty to take it all in!

See you on Monday!

-Walt
