Bobby Glenn Brown in a Holiday Mood.

MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)– An annual Christmastime tradition is back in Marquette County this week.  The Peninsula Arts Appreciation Council is presenting the classic Christmas story of “Scrooge” at the Negaunee High School Auditorium.

Bobby Glenn Brown, show promoter and lead actor, joined Mark and Walt in the Morning today to talk about the show and it’s run.  The show is running this Thursday, December 1-st through Sunday, December 4th with show times for Dec. 1-st at 7-pm and Dec. 4-th at 2-pm.

Mark, Grinch, Walt.

MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The extremely unpopular Grinch showed up this morning in the studios of Sunny 101.9, WKQS and crashed Mark and Walt in the Morning.

The ubiquitous Grinch popped in on Mark Evans as he was innocently delivering the day’s weather forecast shortly after 8 o’clock this morning.  The Grinch used the opportunity to announce to the listeners of his plans to steal the Christmas Tree scheduled to be lit tonight in Marquette Township.

According to the Grinch, stealing the tree will crush the Christmas spirit of Marquette Township as they attempt to start this new tradition.  Mark reminded the Grinch that there will be law enforcement officials out on the lookout for him tonight and that Marquette County Sheriff Mike Lovelace has promised to keep the tree and the spirit safe.

Anthology Coordinator Grace Chaillier.

MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)–  “Voice on the Water: Great Lakes Native America Now” is a new anthology of creative works representing the contemporary American Indian experience in Michigan featuring poetry, short stories, essays, photographs and artwork.

Project Co-ordinator Grace Chaillier joined SUNNY 101.9’s Mark and Walt in the Morning today to discuss the anthology and it’s planned release this week.

A public reading will be held at N-M-U this Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Jamrich Hall room 105.  The free event is open to the public and will showcase contributors and celebrate the book’s launch.

“Voice on the Water” is a collaboration of NMU’s Center for Native American Studies and the NMU Press and was made possible by a grant from the Michigan Humanities Council.

MICHIGAN STATE POLICE

MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Bomb threats were reported this afternoon in a series of businesses in Marquette, MI.

The threats were reported just after 3-pm today at retail locations including ShopKo, Walmart, Target, EconoFoods, The Westwood Mall and others.

As a result of the threats, the businesses were evacuated by authorities.

No other details have been released, and authorities are continuing the investigation. Marquette City Police and State Police at Central Dispatch are asking residents to stay out of the way of the investigations and to follow any directions as given by authorities.

As of last report, all affected businesses have reopened to the public.  No explosives have been located in any of the threatened locations.

MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Marquette Township is presenting it’s inaugural Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at 6pm.

LeAnne Kachmarsky, with Marquette Township, joined SUNNY 101.9’s Mark and Walt in the Morning to invite the public to “Catch the Christmas Spirit with Marquette Township” at the Westwood Mall parking lot near the main mall entrance.

The evening with will feature a variety of family-friendly activities including music, sleigh rides, a visit from Santa Claus as well as the tree lighting ceremony.  Santa Claus is scheduled to arrive on a Marquette Township Firetruck at 6pm to light the tree, and the Marquette Redman Chorale will be performing selected holiday songs and after the lighting ceremony.

Due to reports that a “Grinch” may be on the loose in the Township, disrupting the Christmas Spirit and looking to prevent the tree lighting ceremony, Marquette County Sheriff Mike Lovelace will be patrolling the area.  Lovelace says he is committed to making sure the Grinch doesn’t run away with the Marquette Township Christmas Spirit!

MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Officials with the Michigan State Housing Development Authority, or MSHDA, are letting state residents know how the agency can help them to stave off home foreclosures.

Paul Olson, with the GLCYD, joined Mark & Walt in the Morning today to discuss that concept.  He outlined how by taking kids out shopping that they can learn empathy for others and develop an understanding of supporting others who may be less fortunate.

He also talked about how doing seasonal good deeds can develop a strong work ethic as well as a clear sense of civic duty and personal responsibility in youth that will carry over into adulthood.
