WELL, GANG, WE MADE ANOTHER ONE!

ALL DRESSED UP FOR THE NEW YEAR!

ALL DRESSED UP FOR THE NEW YEAR!

Happy New Year to all of you out there in the ether of the worldwide web.  2009 has been an interesting year to say the least, but it looks like 2010 is going to bring some definite upgrades.  For us on the show and at the station, some of it will begin as early as next week, while other upgrades and expansions will occur over the next few months.  All I can say, is keep listening to “Mark & Walt in the Morning” in 2010, and we’ll continue to bring you the family-friendly mix of information, interviews and your favorites from the ’80’s, ’90’s and now to help you start your busy days.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT.

I SEE THE FUTURE. IT'S SO BRIGHT I NEED SHADES (OR AT LEAST 3-D GLASSES).

I CAN SEE THE FUTURE. 2010's SO BRIGHT I NEED SHADES (OR AT LEAST 3-D GLASSES).

The past 12 months have had some interesting transitions and the way we weathered them was by keeping our noses to the grindstone and moving forward.  We could not have done that without your support or your kindness.  Mark and I both thank you for your continued involvement and ebullient backing of our morning endeavor.  Thanks!  Or as they say in the Mother country, Kiitoksia Paljon! And, of course, we’ll be seeing you all next year with more frivolity and jocularity!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Please be safe and enjoy this holiday weekend, and don’t be a news story for us on Monday!

Peace!

-Mark & Walt

AMAZING.  Y2K WAS TEN YEARS AGO!!

HAVIN' A CUP WHILE FLYIN' SOLO THIS MORNING. IT'S Y2K+10!

HAVIN' A CUP WHILE FLYIN' SOLO THIS MORNING. IT'S Y2K+10!

As I was sitting for a moment during the hectic buzz of doing the show solo this morning, I thought about how time is continuing to march on.  It was 10 years ago when we went through the whole Y2K issue and we made it through with flying colors.  I remember when the pundits and so-called “experts” were claiming the world was going to end in a calamitous implosion of failing computer networks.

Well, I guess they were wrong!

Not only did we make it through, but we advanced mightily!  10 years ago, nobody knew what mySpace, Facebook or Twittering was.  Downloading music was a new, strange and foreign process, and laptop computers were still effective weapons in hand-to-hand combat!  What a change, huh?  It kind of makes you wonder what the next ten years will bring.  Here’s hoping we’ll all be there to see it together!

THE YEAR IS WRAPPING UP!

So, on that note, I hope you are planning a good New Year’s Eve celebration in your own way that you are happy with and I hope the new year and the new decade brings you peace and prosperity!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

-Walt

GO PACK GO!

DONALD DRIVER SHARES THE GLEE WITH THE FANS! (AP Photo/Mike Roemer)

Those of us who are faithful citizens of the Packer Nation, members of the G Force, supporters of the Green and Gold always believed it could happen this year.  We always felt it was attainable.  Now it’s here.  For the first time since 2007 our beloved rag-tag group of headcrushers has made it into the playoffs!  JOY!  Of course there is one regular season game remaining next week, but don’t look for much from the Packers.  Why risk injury to the starters?  Let them start the game, but give the backups some good, quality playing time.  It’s better for all involved.  Congratulations to our heroes for their commanding 48 to 10 victory over the pesky Seattle Seahawks, and here’s hoping for a string of wins culminating with a Super Bowl trophy!!  It would be darn fine to bring the Lombardi back to Green Bay!

OF COURSE, IT IS GREEN BAY FOOTBALL!

SO!  If you are a faithful follower of the Green Bay Packers, you know that getting into the playoffs is grand, but it really doesn’t mean a thing except for a slot at the big dance.  This is the kind of team that could be peaking at just the right time to run roughshod over the competition and never look back, or they could be a “one and out” kind of a team.  Only time will tell, but it was fun getting to this point this season.  Certainly some bits stunk (like the loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers last week), but it has been a significant improvement over last year’s “oh if we only could have” frustrating season.  We are Green Bay Packer football fans!  We love our Miller Lite and Johnsonville Brats and ee sure do love our Aaron Rodgers, Donald Driver, Greg Jennings and more!  They all look like they are having fun playing together and when that is the case, the team will be unstoppable!  Like we say…”GO PACK GO!!”

A VERY SPECIAL THANKS TO OUR SPECIAL GUEST THIS MORNING!

HEATHER EVANS WITH THE MAIN STREET MONDAY WINNING ENTRY!

HEATHER EVANS WITH THE MAIN STREET MONDAY WINNING ENTRY!

Thanks to the effervescent Heather Evans for joining us in the studio this morning for no apparent reason.  Although she claims she came by because she had not seen me for a while, I think her old man, Mark, put her up to it!  But she was a trooper and hung in there for four hours without even dozing off.  (That’s better than I can do!)  She even was courteous enough to volunteer her services to catch the “Main Street Monday Classic Cartoon Trivia Victory Toss”.   Her efforts resulted in a win for Tom B., a traveling sales rep from te Copper Country who happened to call us this morning from Munising!  Congratulations Tom on the win, and thanks to Heather for the catch!

And on that note-

THAT’S A WRAP!

SLIGHTLY GRINCHY MARK AND THAT DARN SINGING SNOWMAN!!

SLIGHTLY GRINCHY MARK AND THAT DARN SINGING SNOWMAN!!

Be sure you have a safe and enjoyable Holiday and that you take the care to exercise caution and use a designated driver if you have too much to drink when you party at your Uncle Bill’s house!  We certainly don’t want you to be a news story on Monday morning!  And remember the real reason for the season this Christmas!

We always like to goof around on the show and don’t always take things so seriously, but now is the time to be serious and enjoy the spirit of Christmas.  Spend the time and energy to show someone close to you what the Christmas spirit means to you!  It’s worth it!

BE SAFE, BE HEALTHY AND WISE, AND WE’LL SEE YOU SOON!

Merry Christmas Everyone!

MARK & WALT, MARCIA FROM BIOLIFE, BILL FROM GLR AND BRAD FROM THE JACOBETTI HOME ROLL IN THE GIFTS FOR THE VETERANS.

Yesterday was the day!  The day we have talked about for some time now.  The day the gifts you provided through BioLife and Sunny 101.9 were presented to the veterans at the Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette.  It was a glorious, sunny day that was made brighter for the veterans by your kindness.  Mark & I would like to thank you all for the items that you kindly donated for the veterans and they were very happy to receive all of the items.  Events and activities like yesterday’s item presentation certainly do drive home the old adage “It’s better to give than receive”.

THANKS TO ALL WHO TOOK PART.

Merry Christmas!

IT’S TURNING INTO ONE OF THOSE DAYS!

I THINK I CAN RELATE.

I THINK I CAN RELATE.

I’m stressed, worried and busy.  That’s a grand combination, if you ask me!  I am stressed about a series of items ranging from Christmas travel plans to gift shopping.  I am worried about things that I can’t control, like the weather, but it still bothers me to no end, and I’ve got a ton of work that needs to get done in a short window of time!  I am not really complaining, it’s just all there on my mind and I can’t shake it.  I wonder if it’s somewhat seasonal as well.  I am relatively ready to fall into the grip of winter, but I’m not too pleased about it because I just don’t care for the cold!  I guess I just need to bear down and move forward to get through it all!  The thing that is important to remember, though, is that the world also can use a hand and that’s what today’s show was all about.  Taking the time and effort to help those who need it in our community.  Today we spent some time with the United Way of Marquette County.

KEEPING THE GIVING GOING WITH THE UNITED WAY OF MARQUETTE COUNTY.

LES & PHYLLIS WONG, YOUR UNITED WAY OF MARQUETTE COUNTY CAMPAIGN CHAIRS!

LES & PHYLLIS WONG, YOUR UNITED WAY OF MARQUETTE COUNTY CAMPAIGN CHAIRS!

Thanks to NMU President  Dr. Les Wong for stopping in this morning with the First Lady Phyllis.  The couple are this season’s campaign co-chairs for the United Way of Marquette County.  They stopped in to give us a quick update on this year’s campaign efforts and how the response has been so far this year.  According to the Wongs, the campaign is going along fairly well, but there is still a lot of unanswered need out there in the Marquette County Community.  To link up directly with the website for the United Way of Marquette County, please click “HERE“.  To listen to this morning’s interview with the Wongs, please click “HERE“.

THE BEST ADVICE IS TO KEEP ON MOVING FORWARD!

Oh well, I guess the formula for getting through the day will be to keep moving ahead and look for the good in every situation.  I know I can do that!  Here’s to some of that infectious Holiday Spirit!  I guess it really does work.

BRRRRRR!

The storm we have been waiting on is here today!  Watch out on your travels across the Central U-P and outlying areas.  Snow showers and high winds will be causing many problems with visibility and travel is not recommended this morning.  It is a pretty scene and gets one into the Christmas mood, but PLEASE drive carefully out there this morning as visibilities are being affected by the snow being blown around by the high winds.  Below is the blizzard information for the central Upper Peninsula including Marquette County.

FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP:

A BLIZZARD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1 AM EST THURSDAY.

* SNOW WILL BE HEAVY AT TIMES…ESPECIALLY THIS MORNING THROUGH EARLY AFTERNOON. THE SNOW WILL DIMINISH TO LAKE EFFECT SNOW SHOWERS TONIGHT. STRONG WINDS WILL CREATE SIGNIFICANT BLOWING SNOW THROUGH THIS EVENING…RESULTING IN LIFE THREATENING BLIZZARD CONDITIONS.

* EXPECT STORM TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 12 TO 24 INCHES THROUGH TONIGHT…WITH THE GREATEST SNOWFALL OVER THE HIGHER TERRAIN FROM THE HURON MOUNTAINS TO NEGAUNEE.

* SUSTAINED NORTHEAST WINDS WILL INCREASE TO 20 TO 35 MPH BY DAYBREAK…WITH FREQUENT GUSTS TO 45 MPH. THE STRONGEST WINDS ARE MOST LIKELY AT EXPOSED LOCATIONS ALONG LAKE SUPERIOR FROM KEWEENAW BAY EAST TO BIG BAY AND MARQUETTE. THE STRONG WINDS WILL DIMINISH TONIGHT.

* THE HEAVY SNOW…IN COMBINATION WITH EXTENSIVE BLOWING SNOW WHIPPED UP BY THE GUSTY NORTHEAST WINDS…WILL CAUSE VISIBILITY TO FALL TO NEAR ZERO AT TIMES TODAY. THESE BLIZZARD CONDITIONS WILL LIKELY RESULT IN THE CLOSURE OF M-28 BETWEEN HARVEY AND MUNISING. OTHER ROADS IN EXPOSED LOCATIONS MAY BECOME IMPASSABLE AS WELL.

CLOSINGS AND CANCELLATIONS.
