Rotary Club of Marquette Makes Major Contribution

More than $12,600 Donated to Marquette Area Fourth of July Committee

Marquette, February 24th, 2009: Marquette’s annual Fourth of July festivities are one step closer to being self-sufficient—thanks to members of the Rotary Club of Marquette. On Monday, February 23rd at the club’s regular meeting Rotarian Jorma Lankinen presented a check for $12,647.25 to Tom Tourville of the Marquette Area Fourth of July Committee—all proceeds from the club’s Fourth of July wristband sales efforts. Lankinen was far and away the club’s top wristband seller, garnering more than eight thousand dollars in sales himself.

MONDAY MORNING IN MARQUETTE & ALGER COUNTY!!

Back on the horse for another week!  The snow seems to have stopped in Marquette County, but Alger County is still getting quite the beating.  A listener called in today to let us know that where they live in Alger County, they had received over 30 inches of snow since last Friday night!

At least all of the snow resulted in a successful UP 200 and Midnight Run for the year.  Thousands came out to see the start of the race in downtown Marquette and Munising was packed for the finish of the Midnight Run!  You can get all of the results by clicking “HERE“.

THE FUTURE OF MARQUETTE LOOKS BRIGHT!!

Marquette Mayor John Kivela.

MAIN STREET MONDAY IS PACKED UP TIGHT TODAY!!

Mark holds the Main Street Monday entries.

Mark holds the Main Street Monday entries.

Main Street Monday “Classic Cartoon Trivia” was a smash today with dozens of entries.  It made for quite a messy MSM Victory Toss, but it’s worth it.  Congratulations to Don M. of Ishpeming.  He knew the answer was “Mr. Magoo.”

SPECIAL NOTE:  R.I.P. SOCKS the CAT.

The late, great SOCKS the Cat!

The late, great SOCKS the Cat!

Sad news for political cat fans.  SOCKS the Cat passed away from cancer last Friday at the age of 18.  SOCKS was the cat that was a pet of the Clinton family when they occupied the White House.  SOCKS was a very popular cat and we’re sad to see him go!

Until next time,

CHEERS!

LIVING IN UPPER MICHIGAN IS GRAND!  SLED DOGS & SNOWSTORMS!!

Good old snow covered and slippery U.P. roads!

Good old snow covered and slippery U.P. roads!

Well, the snow has stopped in the Marquette area, but the poor folks in Munising are still getting more than their fair share of the white stuff.  More school closures, extended winter storm watches and pure winter fun.  AHHH, the Upper Peninsula in February.  Nothing better!  Is there?

Reminds you of home, eh, comrade?

Reminds you of home, eh, comrade?

Of course as you can see here, Marquette was not spared the fun of winter over the last couple of days, either.  This lovely shot from the city of Marquette shows that icy winds and blowing snow made parts of the city look more desolate than a Russian gulag.

WIN-DEEEE! Love the Marquette Weather!

WIN-DEEEE! Love the Marquette Weather!

Well, it’s been a busy one today in the Sunny Studios with all of the closings and cancellations around Marquette & Alger Counties.  State Police at the Negaunee Post are still saying to drive carefully around the central Upper Peninsula due to the snow covered and slippery roads.  The closure of M-28 between Marquette and Munising (which, at last report, is still in effect) made the Weather Channel this morning, so I guess we’re famous!!

SUNNY IN-STUDIO GUESTS STILL MADE IT IN!
